Onam Sadya is an inevitable part of our very own festival. The grand vegetarian feast which includes the Kerala matta rice (parboiled red rice) as the main dish. The rice is accompanied by a variety of vegetarian side dishes and variety of puddings called payasam or pradaman, all of them having their own very unique flavor. The Sadya is served in plantain leaves. Crackers like pappadam and chips, the plantain chips and the jaggery sweetened plantain chips are also served along with the Sadya.
There are rules for where to place each dish on the plantain leaf in a specific order and also for having them. Have it the traditional way…. Use your hands…. that’s how we enjoy the Sadya in Kerala.
