Tempered Spicy Yogurt – Easy 5 Minutes Recipe

Back with a tempered spicy yogurt recipe, almost after 2 years. Food memories are very robust.  Many foods we eat not only satisfies our hunger. It sometimes take us back in time, to places we have not been for a long time. Food is of nostalgic importance at times.




We taste the memory first. This yogurt recipe has such a nostalgic importance to me. We used to make our own yogurt/curd. Now a days it is available in shops. Still we prefer to use homemade yogurt. You can also try making yogurt at home.

 

While growing up, we never wanted any other side dish for rice if amma prepares this tempered spicy yogurt. Since it took only 10 minutes to prepare this, it was easy for her as well. The best combination amma makes is plain red rice served with tempered spicy yogurt and egg omelette.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seed
  • 1 Shallot, Peeled and sliced lengthwise
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • Curry leaves

Instructions

  • Take yogurt in a bowl. Add salt. Mix well and keep aside.

For Tempering:

  • Heat a pan. Add coconut oil into the pan. When the coconut oil becomes hot, splutter the mustard seeds.
  • Add the shallots and cook until it turns just golden brown. Then add the curry leaves.
  • Lower the flame and finally add the turmeric and chili powder. Mix everything well. Switch off the flame. Tempering is ready.
  • Now add the tempering to the yogurt. Mix well.
  • Serve or enjoy with hot rice.
