Chocolate Salami or Salame is an Italian no-bake dessert usually made with dark chocolates, crunchy crackers, egg, butter and a little alcohol. So, of course, it is an international dish and this had been an experiment. They came out almost perfect in my first trial itself…. But I made it again to make the final recipe. Also, I used pieces of KitKat that had been in my refrigerator. We got a lot of KitKat during the Easter and My refrigerator had been loaded with a pile of those sweet chocolates.
Only difference from the original chocolate salami is that this is an eggless and alcohol-free version. I also used roasted and powdered pistachios in the recipe. And mine is a rectangle shaped chocolate salami also. Now to the recipe,
No-bake Eggless Chocolate Salami
- 8 Graham crackers large sheets
- 1/2 shelled pistachio roasted and crushed
- 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder
- 5 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp dark cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- 4 Kit-kat
- 2-3 tbsp drinking chocolate powder for dusting
Place the crackers in a zip-lock bag and seal it. Using a rolling pin, crush it to form a crumbled powder, not a fine powder, just crumbled. transfer it to a bowl.
Add the powdered pistachios into it and mix well. Keep aside.
Boil water in a large vessel. Mix together butter and 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder in a heat-proof bowl. Melt it over the boiling water.
Pour this chocolate-butter mixture into the crumbled crackers and mix well.
Mix together milk and 2 tbsp cocoa powder in another bowl. Let it boil until thick.
Add this mixture also to the crumbled crackers.
Chop the Kitkat bars and add it the mixture. Mix well with a spatula until just everything comes together.
Transfer the mixture to a plastic wrap and wrap tightly to make a log or rectangle shape.
Then unwrap and dust with drinking chocolate powder.
Slice and serve as it is or with ice-cream.
The eggless chocolate salami can be served as just slices, but it will be more delicious when served with ice-cream. This is a really addictive dessert. You can also add different nuts also.
